Athletes, astronauts, singers, politicians and other lesser celebrities have been promoting products for years. The 1960s, of course, were no exception. In fact, the "love and peace" decade may have experienced a highwater mark for the amount of radio jingles and/or specialty product 45s that featured a well known band singing the virtues of the most recent marketing wonder. Although many products - specifically Coca Cola, Pepsi, Pontiac and Levi's - utilized the talents of some of the biggest acts of the '60s, many local or not as established entities featured local and not as established talents to promote their wares and/or services.
Below is a listing of hundreds of product endorsements and or jingles that were recorded by U.S. rock groups of the 1960's. Depending on the product (or perhaps more by band stature), the jingle/song in question might have announced who the recording group was. Typically, if an endorsement was featured on a 45 recording, the band's name would be prominently announced at the start or the conclusion of the song. Often times, however, bands recorded the songs as a side venture and were never meant to be featured in the specific ad campaign. These are obviously more difficult to document and therefore more difficult to track down.
60sgaragebands.com has spent years obtaining the recordings, and has compiled them onto CD-R volumes. The volumes are not for sale, but are available free to anybody that can contribute information (or better yet, recordings) on jingles not listed.
