8mm Home Movie Footage
Perhaps the purest representation of what it was like performing in a rock band in the 1960s is the visual documentation captured by the home movie camera.  Although a somewhat daunting and thankless task--and one that will never be completed--60sgaragebands.com has attempted to catalog and preserve 8mm footage of all of the band's that we've had the fortune to interview (if some exists).  If we were not able to secure the footage as a result of the interview, we've documented it in an attempt to create as complete a listing as possible of surviving film footage of the 1960's rock/garage band.

This is an ongoing project, and will be updated as new finds are located.  In addition to working with our band contacts, we've gone to great lengths to scour flea markets, scrutinize eBay and other auction sites, and keep an eye peeled to Internet sources such as YouTube with the intention of being as thourough as possible.  As with our Cameos section, we're documenting U.S. bands only and, of course, all additions are welcomed and appreciated.

More popular groups such as The Beach Boys, The Doors, MC5 and The Mothers Of Invention were filmed repeatedly for various projects.  We've given up trying to document the surviving footage for these and other more mainstream acts...
