TV/Film Cameos
This is, as far as we know, the most complete listing ever compiled of rock bands / garage bands on 1960's U.S. sitcoms and dramas. This list has literally been years in the making, and would not be as complete as it is without the great help of many individuals, especially Ben Chaput, Matt Hoffman, Greg Prevost, Tom Kleinschimdt, Deena Canale, Gary Belich, Tony "The Tyger" Sanchez, Tom Alger, Mark Rogers and Domenic Priore. Special thanks are also in order to Davie Allan of Davie Allan & The Arrows, John "Chris" Christensen of Opus 1, Dan Hortter of The Yellow Payges, Gary Marker of The Rising Sons, Don Glut of The Penny Arkade, Suzannah Jordan of The Pillory, George Bunnell of The Strawberry Alarm Clock, Michael Sulsona of The Spats, Larry Vilaubi of Turnquist Remedy and Don Grady of The Greefs for providing information and/or for confirming their band's appearances.

Since our website is devoted to 1960's U.S. rock and garage bands only, we have purposely left out many appearances by '60's musical acts that might have had guest-starring roles on sitcoms or dramas. While we realize that The Supremes appeared on TARZAN, that The Righteous Brothers appeared on PLEASE DON'T EAT THE DAISIES, that Neil Diamond appeared on MANNIX, that Chad & Jeremy appeared on not only THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW but also on THE PATTY DUKE SHOW, on BATMAN, and on LAREDO - and that countless other solo acts or non-garage related bands appeared on countless other programs - our intent is not to be an all-inclusive music list. We'll save that for other researchers. We can barely keep track of the data that we do have!

While some of these appearances are remembered by almost anybody that has ever clicked on a television set - who hasn't seen The Wellingtons' take as The Mosquitos on GILLIGAN'S ISLAND? - many listed appearances have never been previously documented, and may not be known to even the most astute television or music researcher or collector. Although many hours have been spent compiling the data, there are undoubtedly additional appearances that we've yet to uncover. If you know of any, please contact us
. Many supposed rumored appearances have proven with research to be true, so any and all information is welcomed.

Rock Group TV Cameos (1964 - 1970)

In keeping with the format and ground rules that we've established with our TV Cameos listing, below is a listing of all known rock and garage band cameos in 1960's feature film movies (actually ones released between 1964 - 1970).  It should be noted, however, that criteria for inclusion is that the appearance must be in a scripted movie - not a documentary, a concert film, or a compilation film.  The band must have also appeared in the movie; soundtrack contributions only are not listed.  Finally, we've only listed U.S. band appearances.  To include solo artists, or non-U.S. acts, would easily double the listing and cause even greater headaches than the list that we've presented below did.

Primary sources and contributors are listed at the bottom of this page, as well as in individual entries.  As with the TV cameos, please contact us if you can add any information or appearances.

Rock Group Feature Film Appearances (1964 - 1970)

The effect of "Beatlemania" was so rampant in the pop culture of the 1960's that it would be impossible to catalog or document every filmed appearance by a garage or rock band. Brief flashes and clips of background rock groups are visible in countless short subjects, newsreels and TV segments, but - damn it - we're going to try to document the notable ones. Though we'll include certain TV specials, this section will not attempt to list guest appearances on daily or weekly music or variety programs, or in complete concert films. Also not included are promo films or scopitone appearances (perhaps we'll attempt to document those at a later date)...

By no means is this meant as the "definitive" listing. Several entries, such as THE BIG TNT SHOW, or 33 1/3 REVOLUTIONS PER MONKEE, are quite well known and are listed only in passing. Other films - especially those including appearances by legitimate garage bands - have never before been documented. And they're the ones we're most interested in anyway...

Special thanks to Ben Chaput, Gary Belich, Tom Alger, Tom Kleinschmidt and Raleigh for their invaluable research.
